Teatar Carte Blanche is one of the youngest theaters in Zemun and Belgrade, officially opened in December 2015. It is located in the heart of Zemun, at 9 Karađorđeva Street, on the former site of the Pinocchio Puppet Theatre. With a repertoire focused on chamber theater performances, cabaret productions, and a variety of musical events, it has gradually established itself as an important and recognizable cultural landmark within the city’s cultural scene.
Its stage has hosted performances by some of the most prominent actors of the region, including Milan Lane Gutović, Nebojša Dugalić, Radoslav Milenković, Neda Arnerić, Feđa Stojanović, Srđan Timarov, Aleksandar Srećković Kubura, Boris Pingović, Tanja Bošković, Rada Đuričin, Vojin Ćetković, Nikola Đuričko, and many others. Through its children’s stage project “Repertoarčić,” the theater also aims to bring younger generations back to this historic address. The building located at 9 Karađorđeva Street in Zemun lies within the historic urban core that was developed during the 18th and 19th centuries under Austro-Hungarian influence. Karađorđeva Street, once the main street of Lower Zemun, is characterized by residential buildings from the interwar period as well as older architectural structures. The entire area forms part of a cultural and historical urban ensemble of great significance.
Historical records indicate that the building served for many years as a residence and care facility for clergy. The Convent of the School Sisters of St. Francis at Karađorđeva 9, often associated with providing shelter and care, represents an important landmark within the historic center. For many years, the building was home to nuns engaged in pastoral and humanitarian activities, including caring for the elderly and those in need, making it a place of both spiritual and physical care.
